Cowley Cotton Club Classes: Thursdays

Oxford Lindy Hoppers offer weekly lessons on Thursday evenings in Cowley Road, at our Cowley Cotton Club, East Oxford Community Centre, 117 Cowley Road, Oxford OX4 1DD. Entry to the Cowley Cotton Club is £6 (£5 students with ID). No partner is necessary as everyone gets mixed together! The classes are offered in 3 terms, so keep an eye on this website and/or our Facebook/Twitter sites for updates as to when classes are active. All our events and classes can be found on the Diary page on this website.

CCC Class Levels 

Level 1: (Beginner) - come along for your lesson at 8:30pm. This is for complete beginners and those who have been coming to Cowley Cotton Club for less than two terms. The focus will be on getting you onto the social dance floor with an arsenal of basic moves that will keep you hopping all night!

Level 2: (Improver) - come along at 7:30pm and we’ll get stuck right in. This class is for those who have been to two terms of beginners or more, and for those looking to move up to Level 3 classes. The aim of this class is to concentrate on building the core-competencies of Lindy Hop (e.g. Lindy Turn, Swingout, Texas Tommy etc.). We encourage all dancers to come along to this class so that you can learn or revisit these essentials for social dancing.

Level 3: (Intermediate) - come along for your lesson at 8:30pm. For those of you who want to take your dancing to the next level, come along to Level 3. We aim to teach these lessons a bit quicker and with more complex moves.

CCC Class Times

  • 7.30 pm: Level 2
  • 8.30 pm: Level 1 and Level 3
  • 9.30 pm: Social dancing
  • 11 pm: G&D’s

Fast-Track Classes: Tuesdays

Fast-Track! is the fun and fast way to the next level in your dancing – a 6-week special course aimed at learning and mastering the fundamentals of Lindy Hop. The benefits to you are:

  • small classes with equal number of leaders and followers
  • personal, honest feedback
  • a set curriculum that will make sure you learn the essential material
  • FREE entrance to the social event following the classes
  • (very) central Oxford location
Book on-line now – places are very limited so be quick to not be disappointed! The first set of lessons starts on March 6th 2012 upstairs at the Mitre Inn, High Street, and 6 weeks of lessons will cost £35 per person. For levels, refer to the CCC details above (Level 1 dancers need not have any dance experience). Numbers will be capped and balanced between lead and follow. Further details will be given in the email acknowledging your place on the course.
n.b. bookings are now closed for followers in the Fast Track A, but you can still apply to be put on the waiting list where you will be considered as priority for the next set of sessions. Booking with a lead is recommended!

OLH Class Ethos

All classes are provided to take you from Novice to Intermediate in as fast a time as possible. The classes are driven by technique but focus on teaching in an inclusive and fun way.
