Blues FUNdamentals is back on Saturday 10th September with Samuel Tinguely, plus evening social dance!

We have two tracks to choose from (or you can do both!):

BluesPlus – 1.5 hours of dance tuition for more intermediate/advanced dancers before the FUNdamentals start.

Blues FUNdamentals – for all levels. 3 hours of all level Blues classes will cover all the basics that you will need to rock it on the Blues dance floor while giving more experienced dancers some technical nitty-gritty to dig their teeth into!

The teacher:

Samuel, originally from Switzerland but now based in London, first got into dancing by discovering traditional Breton dances in Brittany, later followed by balfolk in Switzerland. His latest dance ventures lead him to Swing & Blues dancing, which he fell so much in love with that he decided to commit full-time to dancing. Since then he is teaching regular classes in London and workshops all over Europe.
Samuel loves Blues dancing for its very high degree of individual expression and when teaching enjoys nothing more than to support his students to find their boundaries, giving them a safe space to experiment with new ideas and see them grow as dancers. He strongly believes the world is a better place when people are connected – not digitally, but actually, humanly connected; and for him dancing does just that: it connects people.

See him in action at the Advanced Jack & Jill finals @ Feelin’ Blues 2016 (from 6:30 min):

11:15am to 11:30am – arrival & registration for BluesPlus
11:30am to 1:00pm – Blues Plus (intermediate/advances level)
1:00pm to 1:30pm – arrival & registration for Blues FUNdamentals
1:30pm to 2:30pm – 1st class
2:45pm to 3:45pm – 2nd class
4:00pm to 5:00pm – 3rd class

The classes will take place at the East Oxford Community Centre: 44 Princes Street (on the corner of Cowley Rd), Oxford, OX4 1DD.

We will arrange for a group dinner after the workshop at “Atomic Pizza”, just down the road from the class venue. There is a limit of 20 places, so get in there quick if you want to join! If you want to attend, please indicate so in your booking form.
Check out the menu here: NB: They also do burgers and other things!

To practise all the great things you will have learned during the day, we will host a Blues Social Dance in the evening. The entrance to the social can be booked as package with the workshop. If you want to just buy a ticket for the social then note that these tickets go on sale from noon at 1st September. You might be able to buy tickets on the door (if they are available) if you want to be super spontaneous.

Timing: 20:00 to 01:00
Where: The Jericho Tavern (upstairs), 56 Walton Street, OX2 6AZ Oxford

The classes will be taught in switch style, meaning everyone can learn the lead & follow content of the class if they wish. We believe learning to switch will help you to develop a deeper understanding of the dance and learn techniques faster. It’s also a lot of fun! Think about all the amazing people you will be able to share dances with no matter which role!
If you prefer to stick to either lead or follow role, of course there is an option for that, too. Simply find yourself a booking buddy (e.g. via the facebook event page) and register as a couple. During class, and in the rotation, you can stick to your chosen role.
