BLUES IS BACK IN TOWN!
Join us for a fun day of Blues classes, followed by the popular post-workshop dinner and a social dance in the evening! This time we're running 2 track, one for intermediate/advanced dancers and one open to all levels which is suitable for beginners.
Teaching internationally for over a decade, Andrew still wears the same pair of dance shoes he bought after falling in love with social dance at the end of high school. In classes around the world, he draws upon his experience in social, vernacular, and classical dances to inspire and challenge his students. He brings a balanced focus to technique, body mechanics, spirit, and creativity and strives to create a positive and safe learning environment. Andrew continues to hone his skills through competitions and wins at events around the world, including Mean Old Blues, Rose City Blues (twice), and Portland Blues Experience (thrice). In his spare time, Andrew is a software engineer and holds a Master's degree in Sustainable Design and Construction from Stanford University. He enjoys hugs, yoga, and dark chocolate. WORKSHOP - 2 tracks!
Intermediate/Advanced Track: 3 hours of classes for intermediate/advanced dancers. This track is for you if you can comfortably connect in different positions (from open to close embrace) with partners of varying levels. You can blues dance to a wide range of tempo, everything from super-slow to fast-and-furious. You know different rhythm patterns and are able to build your dance depending on the song instead of sticking to learnt patterns. You like pushing your boundaries and explore new things.
All Levels Track: 3 hours of classes for all levels of blues dancers, be it beginner or more advanced dancers refining their core techniques. This track is for you if you want to work on the fundamentals that make blues dancing blues dancing, and will teach you all you need to know to rock it on the social dance floor while giving more experienced dancers some technical nitty gritty to dig their teeth in!
The classes will be taught in switch style, meaning everyone can learn the lead & follow content of the class if they wish. We believe learning to switch will help you to develop a deeper understanding of the dance and learn techniques faster. It's also a lot of fun! Think about all the amazing people you will be able to share dances with no matter which role!
If you prefer to stick to either lead or follow role, of course there is an option for that, too. Simply find yourself a booking buddy (e.g. via the facebook event page) and register as a couple. During class, and in the rotation, you can stick to your chosen role.

We will arrange for a group dinner after the workshop for those interested. The restaurant hasn't been decided yet but it will be in close walking distance to all the venues. If you're up for joining us, please indicate your interest on the booking form and we will keep you informed. :)
To practise all the great things you will have learned during the day, we will host a relaxed Blues Social Dance in the evening. This will happen around the corner from the workshop venue in the lounge of the East Oxford Community Centre. Join us for some groovy tunes before it goes back to real life on Monday!
